![]() Unfortunately for the brother and sister, Leatherface has come hunting and they’re about to find out that he is just part of a bigger problem.įor the most part, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre doesn’t tell a fascinating story. What’s that sound in the distance? It sounds like a chainsaw. Shortly followed by Jerry, who came looking for the pair.Īs night falls and the trio don’t return, Sally and Franklin are forced to go look for them. She stumbles into a room that is filled with furniture made from human bones before making her acquaintance with Leatherface too. Once Kirk doesn’t come back, Pam heads into the house. It’s one of horror’s best introductions and an early example of the realistic brutality that exists in this movie. Hoping to get some gas for their van, Kirk goes in and meets Leatherface. Kirk and Pam go off to look for a swimming hole but end up stumbling across an isolated house. The man is very unusual and after trying to extort money out of Franklin, cuts him with a straight razor and is kicked out of the van.Īfter that shocking event, the youngsters eventually arrive at the homestead. Once it’s confirmed that everything is ok, they decide to visit the old Hardesty family homestead but pick up a hitchhiker along the way (Edwin Neal). They, along with their friends Jerry (Allen Danziger), Kirk (William Vail) and Pam (Teri McMinn) have driven to find out if their grandfather’s grave has been affected. This is where Sally Hardesty (Burns) and her paraplegic brother Franklin (Partain) come in. It causes outrage amongst the townspeople and travellers come from afar to find out if their dead family member’s graves have desecrated. In a small town in Texas, a gruesome sight is found in a graveyard and it is discovered that many remains are missing from their resting place. While it was marketed as being based on true events, it is not, aside from some story inspiration from the crimes of murderer Ed Gein. Partain, Edwin Neal, Jim Siedow and Gunnar Hansen. It’s a classic, there’s no denying that but the question has to be asked… is it actually a good movie?ĭirected by Tobe Hooper and written and co-produced by Hooper and Kim Henkel. Successful even back in 1974, its popularity has seen it become a franchise with sequels, remakes, prequels and reboots. It’s a classic slasher horror that turned the character of Leatherface into an icon.

Now that the basic idea of the title of the book cover had been decided, Logoist let me into the main interface. I’m an engineer for crying out loud, you can’t expect that much from me. And of course I chose the first one with a black box and white Ts. I didn’t count how many options they showed me but I’d estimate it as over a hundred variations on this original theme. There were glowing letters, and some truly revolting color combinations, and ones that looked like neon. You might think all the rest of the heavy lifting would be up to me at this point, but Logoist took the original idea of the three stacked words with the T encased in a box, and then showed me a ton of variations on this theme.įor example, they showed me one with the Ts encased in a purple box with a reflection on the bottom. It wasn’t that it was perfect, it was that it gave me the vision that I could modify it to be something awesome. ![]() They showed the three words one above the other with the three Ts encased in a black box. When it came time to design the cover for the Taming the Terminal book, I decided to give Logoist a try and I’m really pleased with how it came out. Logoist comes with a vast array of templates to get you started, and then they guide you through options to modify what you see so that your design, in the end, is your very own. In fact, on the its Buyer Protection page, PayPal lists a number of things not covered by its policy, but somehow it forgot to mention items lost in transit: For the buyer, this offers little solace. ![]() But for the buyer, it offers little protection in the event of a lost package. This is a lesson for sellers to save those shipping receipts and to take a photo of the box with shipping label before shipping, so that you can prove shipment should it come to that. According to the full PayPal user agreement, “If the seller presents evidence that they delivered the goods to your address, PayPal may find in favor of the seller for an Item Not Received claim even if you claim you did not receive the goods.” If the seller shows proof of shipment or proof of delivery, the buyer’s claim will not qualify for PayPal’s purchase protection. While PayPal has a “ Buyer Protection Policy,” PayPal’s policy doesn’t actually cover items lost in transit. This brings me to the point of this article: what if the package were really lost? Would I have gotten my money back from PayPal or USPS? Who knows if the USPS investigation would have uncovered anything, but I wasn’t hopeful - they’re processing thousands of packages just in my town, how were they ever going to find a little watch box? PayPal is not Actually Protective of Buyers Perhaps it was in the back of a USPS truck and a delivery person had forgotten to drop it off. I have no idea where it was in the intervening time, but it was finally in my hands. ![]() Thankfully, about a week later, the package finally arrived at my door. I started dealing with the local USPS customer service in my city, and they were (surprisingly) very helpful, if not a little slow (the first day I called, all of their computer systems were down. ![]() If it’s not insured, they don’t really care. To even start an investigation with them, you basically need to have an insured package. So, the seller and I started an investigation with the USPS. Forum members lent a sympathetic ear as well as some good advice, but my watch remained missing for an entire week. So worried that I made a Watchuseek post about it. FedEx, USPS, UPS all have targets to meet in delivering items that are sent as priority or 2-day shipping (think Amazon Prime 2-day delivery and the massive contract it has with the USPS), and people have claimed before that delivery workers will mark items as delivered even when they’re not to make Amazon and other shippers happy.Īfter a few days, I started to get worried. It’s not uncommon for couriers to sign for and mark packages as delivered at the end of a business day when they haven’t actually been delivered yet. I waited a couple days before getting too worried. I had no idea who had actually signed for a package that had allegedly been dropped off at my building. But, the USPS tracking showed a rather uninformative signature: it was nothing more than a straight line through the signature box. The watch was delivered as “signature required on delivery,” meaning that I was supposed to have to sign for the watch before the USPS courier could actually drop it off. I went down to my door person (I live in a large building in a city center), and he’d seen no such delivery. A few days later, I got a notification from USPS tracking that my watch had been delivered. I used a debit card to pay through PayPal, and the seller shipped the watch insured through USPS. That money is gone as soon as you send it. This is the first note: never pay with PayPal Friends and Family. Like most forum transactions, we negotiated price and then I paid with PayPal Goods & Services, which charges a 3% fee on top of the sales price. That said, I had quite the scare when buying my newest watch, a Tudor Black Bay 36, from a forum seller. Plus, I’ve been around these forums long enough that I find the people to be generally trustworthy and nice. There are also “trusted seller” sites like eBay, Chrono24, Torneau, and WatchFinder & Co (recently purchased by Richemont), but buying and selling peer-to-peer on a forum cuts out the middle man and the accompanying middleman markup. I rarely buy watches new from a store or authorized dealer - I buy and sell so much that it’s not worth it to me to pay the brand-new MSRP markup - so look to forums for the best prices. Even eBay largely falls in this category). I recently bought a watch from a forum seller (Watchuseek, Reddit, Rolex Forums… it’s all the same for purposes of this article. ![]() In the United Kingdom this cost is estimated at £3.8 billion annually. Some people may benefit from long-term oxygen therapy, lung volume reduction and lung transplantation. COPD treatments include smoking cessation, vaccinations, pulmonary rehabilitation, inhaled bronchodilators and corticosteroids. While treatment can slow worsening, there is no conclusive evidence that any medications can change the long-term decline in lung function. Most cases of COPD can be prevented by reducing exposure to risk factors such as smoking and indoor and outdoor pollutants. The diagnosis is based on poor airflow as measured by spirometry. ![]() In developing countries, common sources of indoor air pollution are the use of coal and biomass such as wood and dry dung as fuel for cooking and heating. Other risk factors include indoor and outdoor air pollution including dust, exposure to occupational irritants such as dust from grains, cadmium dust or fumes, and genetics, such as alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. The most common cause of COPD is tobacco smoking. COPD is associated with low-grade systemic inflammation. COPD and asthma may coexist and converge in some individuals. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis remain the predominant phenotypes of COPD but there is often overlap between them and a number of other phenotypes have also been described. Many definitions of COPD in the past included emphysema and chronic bronchitis, but these have never been included in GOLD report definitions. Chronic bronchitis does not always result in airflow limitation but in young adults who smoke the risk of developing COPD is high. Emphysema is just one of the structural abnormalities that can limit airflow and can exist without airflow limitation in a significant number of people. Both of these conditions can exist without airflow limitation when they are not classed as COPD. Chronic bronchitis is defined as a productive cough that is present for at least three months each year for two years. Emphysema is defined as enlarged airspaces ( alveoli) whose walls have broken down resulting in permanent damage to the lung tissue.
